LET
ME INTRODUCE YOU TO
EDICIONES DE LA TORRE
We envisage
publishing as a social function, and culture, in which we procure to
emphasise the extent of Man's modest role, as a germinative function
in which ideas, knowledge, beauty and human creation give us means to
transform, day by day and together, our society into a community in
which we can all live.
We consider
the reader to be the essential element of the book as it is he who brings
the creators' work alive and he who recreates it again and again. Our
ideal reader is one who enjoys reading, thinks about what he reads and
uses what he learns.
Our greatest
asset is that created by authors who consider human beings yet know
how to extract incredibly beautiful literary forms from language. We
value as authors or co-authors those who, inserting text, making comments,
translating or illustrating, enrich and complete the work.
We are
a small company but we have great contributors, both within and outside
of the company, with whom we strive to maintain cooperative relations.
We welcome rigorous criticism that both guides readers and helps us
to improve our work day after day.
We distribute
our books by all the lawful channels, but we consider the bookshop to
be the best place for all readers to get to know and acquire our collections.
We ask for the support of teachers and librarians so that anybody who
is interested, be they child or adult, may access our publications.
We fight
against illegal photocopies which undermine books and readers alike
and devalue the royalties of all those involved.
Our position
of political independence and social commitment leads us to collaborate
with movements and people equally committed. Besides the diverse charitable
acts that we have been carrying out since our establishment, from the
1st January 1994 we have assigned 0.7% of the gross profit of our books
to development programmes in the Third World via Non Government Organizations.
We fight
against the degradation of the Environment and as such now nearly all
of our promotional material, and some of our books, are printed on ecologically
recycled paper.
Ediciones
de la Torre began in 1975, emerging from a social and cultural platform.
The publishing company began its activities in May 1976 and since then
it has published more than 400 titles. In the year 2001, with the beginnings
of the 21st Century of our era, we celebrated our 25th anniversary and
we hope to continue being a reference point, modest yet well defined,
for all people and organizations that love and believe in good books.
